Christmas Movie : The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas is a beautiful movie that is a visual delight & perfect for both Halloween & Christmas (i've always prefered to watch it during Christmas). It is a story of Halloween Town-a town filled with ghosts , ghouls , monsters & a boogeyman. The story is of Jack Skellington-the pumpkin king & of his love interest Sally-a rag doll made by a scientist who doesn't want her to experience the outside world. He is bored & weary of the sound of screams & the traditional scary Halloween. One day he chances onto Christmas Town-a shiny,& snowy world filled with colorful lights & happy faces & the smells of cakes & pies. He is so excited by the idea of spreading happiness & cheer,he comes back to Halloween Town with gifts & decides they need Christmas. But for that he needs to find out what Christmas means. But for that he needs to replace 'Sandy Claws' & sends out three mischevious kids-Lock , Shock & Barrel to kidnap him.

The movie is great with no boring parts. You can't help but fall in love with Jack & his pet Zero-a ghost with red Rudolf-like nose. It has a great story-line & songs. My personal favourite? The Oogie Boogie Song :)

When the Supernova and Black Hole of mine collide.

Note: This might sound fantasy but it is a part of something that I experience usually to find sanity through insanity and bring clarity to my life's hazy reality.

I was sitting alone, on a satellite called Pluto,

It was dry and freezing, yet I felt no cold,

There was a spark that kept me warm,

It was right above my nose,

It was a certain grey matter; more precious than gold,

On it were carved- stories of old,

And events foretold by mystic folk,

It was soft as a clay mould,

Yet hard as a stone,

It was filled with countless nano bolts,

Travelling through liquid paths,

Like dew filling spaces between grass in a Garth,

It had a lot of memories stored,

Stress multiplying by folds,

Yet it held on, providing warmth,

I thought I would get the most,

If I sat inside a red hot star,

So I floated towards the Sun,

Past the blue-ing cold of Neptune and Uranus,

Past Jupiter’s watchful eyes of Storm,

Past the scythes of Saturn,

Past the drying Mars,

Past the dying Earth,

Past the scorching Venus,

And past Mercury; Sun’s tiny son,

And I reached the Star;

It tried to halt me as I advanced,

Whipping me with its monstrous arms,

But I desired its warmth,

So I asked if I could travel to its heart,

After much thinking it let me pass,

And I dived into its gigantic pool of flame,

Tears of joy vanishing into fuming air,

I pushed myself hard and reached its heart,

And saw it burn every membrane,

Like fire melting every screw of a burning train,

My screams of pain ravaged every galactic terrain,

And then I saw it all fade,

As my soul started to liberate,

Like a plane taking off a congested plain,

I could no longer feel my heart, or my brain,

It was not a loss, but rather a gain,

I exploded like a bomb under a sack of grain

Shattered like a glass house pelted by hail

And shimmered like Sun lit rain,

Thus I let go of everything I sustained,

I was finally unchained,

Faster than light I sped through the Milky Way,

And found an empty place in a star filled space,

Starting to concentrate on cusps of fate, I let myself separate

Into a fiery mass of blue, red and orange,

I was now a Supernova with immense light in my hold,

And into a circle of all consuming hate,

I was now also a Black Hole, darkest and most bold,

I was facing the duality of me,

Fed by celestial thoughts that surpassed insanity,

They surpassed the logic of humanity,

A part of me was overflowing and other empty,

I started to consume light by collapsing stars into my black hole,

And illuminated the unending skies around with my Supernova’s light,

And then I waged a war between and against myself,

Two forces of mine cried for a fight,

They stood left and right on a board of black and white,

My Supernova grew in speed and my Black Hole in might,

The former created an arrow of blinding light,

And launched myself onto my former’s pit of darkest night,

And I felt myself collide,

My Supernova fell into my Black Hole,

I felt a sting of hot and cold,

Letting go of my hope,

My will began to subside,

And everything within me died,

The strings of time were denied a tune or rhyme,

Words of my soul fell out of their lines,

And then in the impurity of emptiness something pure came alive,

And like a rush of all emotions I burst into life,

My eyes flung open to light,

As I completed the mystical journey of my inner life that defied time,

And returned to the world of my outer life,

As a Labyrinth of Crypts without lies.

Hinges of Success, Bolts of Hindrance

Well, this is how things were to go by:

People sitting around hinges,

Lying in workshops that create doors of success,

By using tools of patience, observance and selflessness,

And by sharing lunch available in abundance and fresh,

Clad in dresses giving a feeling of protectiveness,

Painting together colours of moral behavior,

And installing lights of compassionate radiance,

Using ingredients of obedience and positive cautiousness,

With a vision of beautifying the obvious,

Creating handles with positive expectance,

And ushering themselves into an era of eras of thankfulness,

But now I see:

People sitting around bolts of hindrance,

Lying around workshops that create weapons of madness,

By using tools of haplessness, shallowness, selfishness,

And by sharing lunch available in shortage and non fresh,

Clad in dresses making us protection less,

Spraying together tar of immoral behavior,

And installing lights of uncompassionate darkness,

Using ingredients of disobedience and negative cautiousness,

With a stare of dirtying the obvious,

Creating switches with negative expectance,

And ushering ourselves into an era of thankless foolishness,

Give me hope, hold me close,

Give me a treasure trove full of pure loves,

Give me hope; fold me in a rose,

Give me a globe full of a million doves,

Give me hope, stroll me in a grove,

I’m not sure; we’ve lost our core,

We have made this earth impure,

I’m not sure; when it’ll scream and moan,

And tear our every muscle and bone,

Give me hope, hold me close,

Give me a treasure trove full of pure loves,

Give me hope; fold me in a rose,

Give me a globe full of a million doves,

Give me hope, stroll me in a grove,

Give me hope, Give me hope…

Give me hope, hold me close……

Till my soul is assured……..

Rockstar Review

"Pata hai, yahan se bahot door... galat aur sahi ke paar... ek maidan hai. Main wahan milunga tujhe"

The multi layered couplet by Rumi and audible in Ranbir Kapoor's husky voice engulfs you as the movie begins. Then silence.

Soon you see Jordan (long curly haired Ranbir Kapoor) break away from cops, rush through public transport and land at his own concert held in a giant stadium. He strikes a chord on his guitar and wham! you are flash backed to all the phases of Jordan as the rockstar with a beautiful edit of "Jo Bhi Main".

Here, I am must take a break from the basic of reviewing and congratulate the editor, Aarti Bajaj for a fantabulous job!

We are now at the beginning of a young collegiate Janardhan Jharka's (Ranbir Kapoor) journey. He idolises Jim Morris but cannot take off in a similar fashion because something is "missing" in his performance. That something, as his well wisher (Kumud Mishra) tells him is "pain". Off goes Janardhan in pursuit of heartbreak.

Enter Heer (Nargis Fakhri) the serial heartbreaker and he is determined to get his heart broken too. Series of hits and misses later he strikes an unconventional friendship with her and together they go to fulfil her list of "to dos" before her inevitable marriage in a couple of months. They part as friends but not before she rechristens him "Jordon".

Jordon goes on to being kicked out of his house, taking refuge in a Dargah, being noticed by a celebrated Shehnai Ustad (Late Shammi Kapoor) and stands on the brink of being a Rockstar.
A musical tour takes him to Europe... and his heart takes him to Heer who is in Prague. It is here that the story of his soaring and decline begins simultaneously.

To reveal anything further is doing injustice to the film.

Rockstar works on many levels. It is devoid of cliches. The cinematography by Anil Mehta is mesmerizing. He captures the heart of Delhi, the cool of Kashmir, the colonial perfection of Prague and the roars of the maddening crowd with perfection.

Jordan's steady climb to being a solo Rockstar may seem hard to digest but that is not the film's flaw. India has never known a Rockstar before.

Imtiaz Ali knows his characters well. He has meticulously etched the character of Janardhan who is a buffoon, a dreamer, a companion, a Rockstar, a lover and a helpless human being in different phases of the movie and sometimes in the same phase.

Ranbir has given his careers best performance here. He is a revelation. His eyes speak volumes whether they are playful or intense with pain. His screen presence is something to reckon with and this performance has placed him far ahead of his contemporaries.

Nargis Fakhri is a beautiful find and has done a commendable job but her foreign demeanour comes in the way of the story telling. She shares an almost poetical chemistry with Ranbir in the film.

There are two Rockstars in this film. They are AR Rahman and Mohit Chauhan. Together they make Rockstar a MUSICAL. And musical it is. Frame by frame. Beginning with the moody "Jo Bhi Main" speeding to the lively "Katiya Karu" changing gears to the soulful "Kun Faya Kun" moving over to the distraught "Aur Ho" soaring up with "Saadda Haq" and coming to a grand on stage finale of Nadaan Parindey blending into the soothing Tum Ho...

Finally, take a bow Imtiaz Ali. At the crux of his each film lies a simple concept -- Soul Mates. Rockstar is no different. It is a musical, narrating with subtlety the story of two diverse individuals meant to be together. That no achievement high enough can make you happy if you don't have your other half by your side. It touches you the most when you see the despair in Ranbir's face and voice as he pleads with his mentor and manager reasoning that he could give up everything to not have his heartbroken.

The film will garner diverse and extreme views. To each his own. The film is about understanding the unsaid because saying it will scar its flow. Yes, there are things that may get you wondering "why?" but they are minimal.

The best advice I can give is that if you cannot connect to Rockstar in its initial 15 minutes, the journey there on is tedious. But then if you do --- oh yeah yeah... yeah yeah yeah... You'll walk out in love with Ranbir Kapoor.

(No prizes for guessing what happened to me)

The Scroll of a Billion Souls

Let it be known to you

That the strength of your lies will crumble and settle to dust

When the apocalypse reigns over our universe

God will judge me, God will judge you

As resurrect shall we from our mud filled graves –

With dungeons in the colossal flames that rules every sun,

Or a Palace besides the streams in the yards of grapes

For not all that rise will have histories same

For they will come as divided in sums

Some with the stains of sinful lusts

Some with lives spent as life less saints

Some with the claims, of firing a hundred guns

Some with the taints, of heartless murder

While others with the traits, to heartfelt surrender

In front of the Almighty One

Who has ever bestowed his seamless love,

A love which cannot be written in metaphors

A love which cannot be shrunken in words

A love which cannot be compiled, even if we combine-

A million drums, of galactic ink

We will only reach the opposite end of his love’s brink

It has no end, as all know it

As YOU know it

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

And there he shall see, as we shall see

The memories we shall reminisce

Of this material film of loosened crust

A place we call our amazing world

A place which is our Mother Earth

A place in his gaze tinier than dirt

A place once colored in green and seemed lush

A place which never had any worth

A place that will crumble to dust

For when the angel of doom blows the grains

He shall crush us all with them

And take the one thing that remains

The scroll of a billion souls

In which are written the acts of old

And we shall stand, in the ground under his terrible hold

Looking at all, all unknown,

And there shall be no escape, No phone

To call for help, nor there shall be the guts to moan

When his gaze, who loves you, will ask you

What have you done?

To be just towards the only One

What have you done?

To repay the tiniest part of his love?

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

God bless us everyone,

And forgive us for what we’ve done

For all the sins in which we are bound to burn

With the list of murders and lusts

For breaking thy fellow’s trust

For basking in the shadows of Satan’s worshippers

For the words that have turned

Into swears and a countless curse

Inflicting Pains that cannot be reimbursed

Hurts that have churned

Ignoring God’s words

For being a creation that yearns for self love

And thus feeling hate over love

Following a thousand turns

With paths that lead to hell’s burns

For wearing on wrong gowns

And throwing away right’s crowns

We are Hell bound

With bellies boiling with wine of a thousand rounds

In a place bigger than a zillion titanic towns

O We are hell bound

Sitting on the chairs of a train going underground

Though planes lay vacant above the ground

As heaven waits with love unfound

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

We tremble under the howls of tectonic hounds

Flee at the coming of Tsunami’s sounds

Are torn by Storms, blades of death spinning round

Burn in the fires when Hell growls

Moan in plight when beastly plague prowls

Drown in the wrath of the Skies’ shouts

And bake in the arrows of the angered clouds

And when death comes we stand astound

Like frozen by a blizzard in a cold hearted town,

But we do not heed to the signs

And to dreaded fate we resign

While thorns of guilt makes designs

On our hearts confused and full of lies

That cry at the sight of our plight

When we are reminded of God’s might

And lower our heights of anger provoking pride

As we bow to the ground

With our souls’ eyes looking at the heavenly skies

And there start our shameless tries

To convince The One to give a peaceful night

And forgive our wrongs and accept our rights

But there will come a time

When we’ll no more find angels on our left and right

There will come a time when He will reply

Why should I?

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

There is still time to repent

Else we will regret

Whining that a fate of damnation we met

Though the door of salvation was right above our heads

There is still time to repent, There is still time to repent, There is still time to repent before we are wastefully spent…..

Note of Courage, to the Oppressed in Distress (This was my second ever Poem)

Don't just stroll you lazy soul

Don't just jog in this hazy fog

Don’t just look over the gaping hole

Don’t just walk in the maze like paths

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

You're univocal like the roaring Romans

Then why keep quiet like luckless clovers?

Raise your spirit when it lowers

Bring down the foe when it hovers

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't just stare at the starry sky

Grab the stars that shine

Look at your inner might

Halt the thoughts that make you whine

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don’t be a limp foal

Reach for the other half of your soul

Feed the beacons of hope

With will as fiery as burning coal

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't just drift into the woods of emptiness

Don’t sink in the waters of loneliness

Use the woods to gather a moot of Ents

Make a net and gather all fishermen

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

If one of you die

The other too loses life

There'll be no time

To reminisce and cry

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't just cry like a lonely child

God is there with you if you try

As there is always light

Even to lead the dark-men at night

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Wipe these tears

Wash these smears

No need to fear

God is with you O dear

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't just enjoy your dreams

Don't just swim in its streams

Turn your dreams into reality

Before your life ends in a tragedy

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

This world is unfair,

Punishes who dare to love, but don't you give up

Say you love to dare, say you love to stare

Right in their eyes and say you'll fight till u die

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't feel you're a sinking ship

For you’re a submarine taking a dip

Only a few succeed

And you're one of them indeed

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Don't let the pressure cripple you

Think it’s only a headache which grew

This is nothing new

It’s as early as morning dew

Run out of the realms of darkness

Glide through the screams when your heart pains

Give your all, for the cause

O brave lot, fight for your heart

Say “As long as there’s a straw of breath

As long as people praise Macbeth

Come the worlds might, I won't give up on my right

I’ll keep up my fight till I die

I won't cry like a lonely child

God is with me if I try

I'll reach for the stars that shine

I have behind me an army of Ents

I’ll catch my dreams in a net

I’ll run out of the realms of darkness

And glide through the screams when my heart pains

I’ll give my all, for a cause

I’ll fight for my heart!”
